Latest News and Events for Clinton Sunrise Rotary—Our 21st Year of Service! |
Clinton Sunrise Rotary BestowsPaul Harris AwardCarol Crawford-Jones recently was named a Paul Harris Fellow at a meeting of the Clinton Sunrise Rotary Club. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary and the award in his name is given to a community member who has made a valuable contribution to Rotary. Mrs. Crawford-Jones, a retired Business Marketing teacher and head of the Gifted and Talented program at Voorhees and North Hunterdon High Schools, spent over 10 years connecting Rotary to the students at these schools through Bridging the Gap, a Rotary youth vocational and leadership educational program; and Rotary Youth Leadership Award scholarships. Bridging the Gap connects Rotarians in business with educators and students in a common entrepreneurial project that fosters real- life learning, mutual respect and a better understanding of each through a Business Plan Simulation. This project has been held not only at the above 2 Hunterdon schools, but also at Del Val and Polytech. The Rotary Youth Leadership Award is a scholarship program that brings selected students together from 5 counties (Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex and Union) for a weekend conference to develop leadership skills through team building projects. Mrs. Crawford-Jones was instrumental in both implementing these programs at North & Voorhees and leading the efforts as the school liaison. As Carol has recently retired, she has introduced Rotary to her replacement, Megan Grilli-Oesterle, so the club can continue to run these programs in the schools. “It is people like Carol that help Rotary achieve its vocational and youth service goals,” said Megan Jones-Holt, Vocational Director of Clinton Sunrise. The Clinton Sunrise Rotary club meets every Thursday morning at 7:30am at the Clinton Firehouse. More information on the Club can be found at www.clintonsunriserotary.org |

CLINTON SUNRISE ROTARY HONORSTHE HOLT FOUNDATIONThe Clinton Sunrise Rotary Club honored the Holt Charitable Foundation at a recent breakfast meeting. Clinton Sunrise has received grant funding from the Holt Foundation for the past several years which allowed the Club to accomplish various charitable projects, both in our local community and internationally. President Lynn Arnold awarded a plaque to members of the Holt Foundation and stated, “Both Clinton Sunrise Rotary and the Holt Charitable Foundation have the same fundamental mission – to assist with areas of need in our community. We are proud to have been selected by the Foundation as a grant recipient for the past several years, receiving a total of $12,500.” The Holt Charitable Foundation was incorporated in 2003 by members of the Holt family. Each year, the Foundation provides funding through a grant application process, to approximately 25-30 organizations, with donations ranging from five hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. The focus is on smaller, local charitable organizations, where it is felt that the contribution will make the greatest impact and most especially where the Foundation feels that the largest portion of their contribution will serve the mission or request of the particular charitable organization. Besides the Clinton Sunrise Rotary, additional organizations supported in 2010 by the Foundation include: Clinton Fire Dept., Clinton Rescue Squad, Montgomery Fire and Rescue Squad, Crawford House, Dreams Come True, Hunterdon County YMCA, Hunterdon Land Trust, Hunterdon Prevention Resources, NJ Animeals, Open Cupboard, Safe In Hunterdon, Shannon Daley Fund, Somerset Chaplaincy, The Wellness Community, Grow-a-Row, Briteside Adult Day Care Center, and Hunterdon Helpline. Members of the Holt Charitable Foundation include President - John C. Holt; Corresponding Secretary - Ann C. Holt; Secretary - Matthew Holt; Treasurer - Sara Rude; Trustees Megan Jones-Holt, Peter Rude and Justin Holt; and Trustees-in-Training Peter and Katie Rude. Clinton Sunrise Rotary Club’s next community event will be the annual Peter Pender Fishing Derby to be held on May 1st at De Mott Pond in Clinton. Look for more information in the coming weeks. The Club is currently seeking new members.
